March is Literacy Month! Our school is transformed into Silver Mesa School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We have Harry Potter themed games and activities that support and encourage literacy all month long. We try to encourage the kids to explore the magical worlds that await them in books. We celebrate at the end of the month with our Literacy Night. Lots of games and activities centered around the events of the month making it a most magical night.

The JA elementary school programs include six sequential themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and one capstone experience (JA City Biztown). Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. The sequential activities build on studies from each preceding grade and prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning.

Masterpiece Art is an art enrichment program that uses reproduction of fine works of art to promote art literacy in children. Various Artists are presented on a bi-monthly basis to each classroom followed by a hands-on art project.
The Masterpiece Art program is run solely by volunteers. No art knowledge or experience is needed or required to teach the classes. All projects are pre-planned and all art materials and lesson plans are provided for each 45 minute lesson. Most of the class time is spent on the children working on their art piece.

Masterpiece Music's "Listen! to the Music" is our music program introduced to Silver Mesa in 2015 and is taught in all grades (Kindergarten through 6th).
The program is taught every other month in conjunction with Masterpiece Art. The goals of the program are to: *Introduce students to the joy of listening to music (instrumental, vocal, classical, contemporary, etc.) *Introduce various instrument families to students. Allow students to hear instruments from each of these families. *Provide listening activities that allow students to hear music examples of each family. *Provide listening activities that allow students to identify what instruments they hear. *Introduce students to a myriad of composers. |

The Silver Mesa Elementary Spelling Bee is a fun contest open to all students grades 3-5, where kids get a chance to show off their oral spelling ability in front of an audience.

It is a time when students can let loose and have fun with all their friends, and Teachers get a small break to work on their end of the year duties. CALLING ALL DAD’S…..WE WANT YOU!!!
We challenge all the dads to volunteer at least one school day this year. We would really like to increase our Male Involvement here at the school. Studies show that students with Dad’s who volunteer are more likely to get higher grades and do well in school.
