March is our literacy month! In the middle of the month we will celebrate with a Harry Potter themed literacy night and our book fair. All book fair volunteers get $5 toward their purchase

March is Literacy Month! Our school is transformed into Silver Mesa School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We have Harry Potter themed games and activities that support and encourage literacy all month long. We try to encourage the kids to explore the magical worlds that await them in books. We celebrate at the end of the month with our Literacy Night. Lots of games and activities centered around the events of the month making it a most magical night.

S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym. It stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math. We highlight these fun learning topics in January during our science fair.

We are excited to present Silver Mesa's first ever school musical. Come check out the "hard knock" work our kids and our volunteers have put in to make this possible.

We sell high quality clothing and bags with our school colors and logo. Parents can purchase these items at the beginning of the year and kids can wear them on spirit days.

The choir usually consists of 3rd-5th graders and performs a Christmas program in December before school lets out.

The JA elementary school programs include six sequential themes for kindergarten through fifth-grade students and one capstone experience (JA City Biztown). Students learn the basic concepts of business and economics and how education is relevant to the workplace. The sequential activities build on studies from each preceding grade and prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning.

Masterpiece Art is an art enrichment program that uses reproduction of fine works of art to promote art literacy in children. Various Artists are presented on a bi-monthly basis to each classroom followed by a hands-on art project.
The Masterpiece Art program is run solely by volunteers. No art knowledge or experience is needed or required to teach the classes. All projects are pre-planned and all art materials and lesson plans are provided for each 45 minute lesson. Most of the class time is spent on the children working on their art piece.

Masterpiece Music's "Listen! to the Music" is our music program introduced to Silver Mesa in 2015 and is taught in all grades (Kindergarten through 6th).

The program is taught every other month in conjunction with Masterpiece Art. The goals of the program are to:
*Introduce students to the joy of listening to music (instrumental, vocal, classical, contemporary, etc.)
*Introduce various instrument families to students. Allow students to hear instruments from each of these families.
*Provide listening activities that allow students to hear music examples of each family.
*Provide listening activities that allow students to identify what instruments they hear.
*Introduce students to a myriad of composers.

The Silver Mesa Elementary Spelling Bee is a fun contest open to all students grades 3-5, where kids get a chance to show off their oral spelling ability in front of an audience.

The Silver Mesa Elementary Science Fair is held each year in the spring, and all students are invited to participate by entering a science project.

We like to have a Room Parent to represent each of our teachers. It varies by teacher but most have some things that they like help with, in addition to planning the Halloween and Valentines Parties.

Each grade is given funds for their Halloween and Valentine Parties. 4th grade revives funds for their Rendezvous and 5th grade receives funds for their year end dance.

We love our teachers and staff here a Silver Mesa and we like to show them how much we appreciate them. We're going to have to be more creative this year about how we do this!

Help spoil our teachers during their VERY long days of parent teacher conferences. Due to COVID our food will all need to be catered so we will need creativity (and generosity) as to how we go about this!

Field Day is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year. It is a time when students can let loose and have fun with all their friends, and Teachers get a small break to work on their end of the year duties. The day traditionally consists of a variety of events, games, and competitions that everyone can enjoy.

We need help keeping our kids safe in the parking lot at school, both in the mornings and afternoons. You would help organize and direct the 4th and 5th grade volunteers, which also involves putting up and taking down the flag. THIS JOB IS A SAFETY PRIORITY AT OUR SCHOOL!

Silver Mesa PTA is proud to fund all of our schools filed trips. This takes the burden off the administrators and allows them to be able to provide aides to help our children and our teachers.

Help us gather the wonderful reflections creations of our kids so they can be judged and earn prizes.

This committee handles the PTA membership drive at the beginning of the year. We are striving for 100% membership!

Generous community members or businesses that wish to donate funds to our PTA to encourage math, science, arts, reading, and education for kids in general may do so here.

Math Trackers

Ms. Fielding is oping to start a kindness project this year. It would involve creating a monthly activity for students to participate in that spreads kindness--think thank-you's to first responders, artwork for care facilities... If kindness is your mantra, this project is for you!

We need someone to help us recognize and bring awareness to the diversity and sometimes hidden strengths within our community. This could involve creating inspirational bulletin boards, sharing video clips of awareness on Monday Minutes... There are a lot of options as to how to run it.

White Ribbon Week teaches important principles of online safety through short, but thoughtful conversations. Each day students are taught a new and important principle which helps guide them in their use of technology--we call these “Power Boosts.”

CALLING ALL DAD’S…..WE WANT YOU!!!
We challenge all the dads to volunteer at least one school day this year. We would really like to increase our Male Involvement here at the school. Studies show that students with Dad’s who volunteer are more likely to get higher grades and do well in school. If you’re interested in learning about opportunities for Dad’s please sign up below and we will send out an email/text as specific opportunities become available.
